The Cameron has two small stages. Each room has a capacity of 60 people. Generally anyone who plays The Cameron House always has a local following of sorts. We do not count on walk-ins to provide an audience for our live acts. If you're coming from anywhere outside the greater Toronto area, chances are you will be playing for the soundman and the waiter, hardly worth it for you or us. Best thing to do is drop by the bar, see where it is, take a look around and then decide if it would be beneficial for you and your gang to play here. Since opening it's doors to musicians in 1981, The Cameron has been home to well over a thousand bands. Many of these artists have since gone on to enjoy very successful careers in music. The likes of , Gordie Johnson, Blue Rodeo, Holly Cole, Jane Siberry, Ron Sexsmith, Lorainne Segato, Willie P. Bennet, Molly Johnson and The Barenaked Ladies are only the tip of the iceberg. If you're interested in playing The Cameron there's a few things you should know. You MUST be at least 19 years of age to play here. This is due to new anti-smoking by-laws and Liquor License regulations. We require a tape or CD (live recordings are fine) with a couple of songs that best represent your bands' sound. Please enclose a short history of where you've played. Drop the package off any day after 4:00 PM at the bar. Leave the material with us for a week then call us to follow up at the number below. The Cameron supports music of all genres. A Varied Venue What you will find when you enter are two smallish spaces which serve individual purposes. The back room hosts original plays and music, and the front room is where you will encounter most literary events and more intimate musical performances. But then, of course, such distinctions are anathema to the building’s spirit, so don’t be surprised. Just grab a seat and have a pint. What you will find in terms of company is anyone's guess. Indeed, both the ordinary and extraordinary may be found here. Handfuls of locals regularly gather on the small fenced-in patio to enjoy a pint on a sunny afternoon. Similarly, the next Atwood or Lightfoot may well spend their off-time here as well. After all, Blue Rodeo once played the back room on a regular basis, and Ron Sexsmith was still playing it when he became Elvis Costello’s favourite singer/songwriter.

Take a listen to their intoxicating web of great country classics and new experiments in the old style.
Kevin Quain and his band, the Mad Bastards, splatter the walls with songs about restless corpses, wistful vampires, punchdrunk sailors, singing bank robbers, and barroom romances. Led by singer, songwriter and squeezebox slinger Kevin Quain, and armed with an accordion, doghouse bass, trumpet, a couple of Spanish guitars and a musical saw, the Mad Bastards spin surreal musical tall tales in a fury of sturm, drang and dramatic lighting, furiously smashing and reconstructing musical genres without reck, ruth or relent. Like a chance meeting of Kurt Weill and Hank Williams at a drunken pawnshop heist, this is late twentieth-century garage jazz cabaret noir unlike anything you've seen or heard before.
