Ciao Edie is known for it's very popular Saturday "DykeNights", so naturally it's got a great selection of martinis. But it's not a "gay bar" by any means, instead it's a nice loud bar with a retro look and a good lounge where everyone's welcome. The staff are friendly and the drinks are great. Underground gateway... Nestled below ground at the gateway to the College Street strip, Ciao Edie is a hot spot for first dates, dancing with friends, and thirsty socialites seeking a great cocktail. This laid back lounge (with just enough space to cut loose) suggests the atmospheres of Church and Wellesley and Clubland, but with a College Street twist. The place is known for its legendary Sunday nights- “Here Kitty Kitty” Sundays are a staple for the downtown lesbian crowd, offering a chance to chill out, cut loose or pick up. Hip nostalgia To step down into Edie’s subterranean Shangri-la is to take a trip into a funky retro-lounge setting where the crowd is, at times, as eclectic as the décor. 70s-style seating is blended with hip nostalgic lighting and a unique layout designed to please a diverse clientele. While the cozy space maintains the ambiance of a lounge, the DJs have been known to keep the crowd on their feet. The absence of an actual dance floor is never something that deters partiers. The front entrance offers up an area to relax amongst a forest of greenery borrowed from the tropics and suited to a semi-secluded rendezvous. Whether dancing, drinking, or dating, Ciao Edie welcomes all comers with smiles and good spirits. It Roxxx Ciao Edie’s has a signature martini list, as well as pretty well any other colourful cocktail you might like to get the evening rolling. The bar has also added a roster of different DJs to its Thursday through Saturday night line-up to appeal to a more diverse clientele. In fact, the 2005 changes to Ciao Edie’s makeup is a great example of how Toronto’s social scenes have developed to embrace all lifestyles without the divisiveness.
