The Devil Makes You Do It
One of several business pubs dotting Toronto’s Dilbert district, The Devil’s Advocate lures pedestrians just south of Bay and Gerrard with promises of “Fine English Fare.” Decked out in a barrister’s wig, a smirking Satan affirms the British nature of the pub, while the wicked glint in his eye suggests that the popularity of beer and spirits far surpasses any offerings from the kitchen.
Pick Your Vice
Upon stepping down to the main floor, an assortment of familiar favourites immediately vies for your attention. If you’re not distracted by the laughter of the regulars feasting at their tables, or seated at the enormous bar, a wide screen TV with the sports that are also broadcasted from a handful of smaller sets. Meanwhile, the clacking of billiard balls draws the pool enthusiast around the corner to a felt-topped table, where several pool cues wait to be wielded.
I Cast Thee Out!
Even with all that Devil’s offers inside, it’s important to remember what’s been left behind – in this case a spacious patio stretching around two of the pub’s expansive walls. Being one of the larger patios you’re likely to find in the area, it is important to remember something that Beelzebub would be the first to admit: one should always take advantage of hot weather.

Whether you choose to dine inside or out, numerous selections are available from the daily specials and the pub’s regular menu. From mains that include burgers, fish and chips, and shepherd’s pie, to starters such as wings and loaded nachos, there is plenty to satiate one’s appetite. And don’t feel too guilty if you forgo such options as the salads or veggie plate – if you’re going to indulge in gluttony, what better place than at The Devil’s?
Located on Bay Street near Gerrard, The Devil's Advocate serves up traditional pub fare like fish and chips, wings and nachos at reasonable prices. On weekends, drop in for brunch.
